Browns acquire Greco

CLEVELAND

The Browns have traded a conditional seventh-round pick in 2012 to the Rams for guard John Greco, according to a league source.

The Browns only will have to surrender the pick if Greco, a graduate of Boardman High, becomes a starter.

Greco (6-foot-4, 329 pounds) was a third-round pick out of Toledo in 2008.

The Browns acquired Greco in part because of Eric Steinbach’s left knee injury and the fact that free agent guard Floyd Womack signed with the Cardinals.

Steinbach is starting camp on the non-football injury list, but Browns coach Pat Shurmur said the injury was not believed to be serious.

Greco, who will be reunited here with Shurmur, his former Rams offensive coordinator, has started four of his 26 games in St. Louis. He can play both tackle and guard.

Another Boardman graduate, Steve Vallos, has been an offensive lineman with the Browns since last September.
