One of the favorite parts of the student's trip was the visit to the AgVenture Barn, where the Union Preschoolers were free to explore farm-themed play areas. Checking out the area were students Samantha (left) and Marco.

The classroom for the students at Union Preschool looked a lot different than normal on April 6. Instead of Poland, the day of learning was being held in Canfield. Instead of toys, puzzles and pencils, the students were surrounded by hay, barns and animals as they took a field trip to Mill Creek Park’s MetroParks Farm for a day of learning.

Brenda Markley, agricultural facilities manager for the farm and frequent guest to Union Preschool, met the students of Joy Bucci and Janice Brant’s classrooms at the farm to give them a tour of the facility.

The students were given a guided tour through the farm and the animal barns and offered play time in the AgVenture Barn. The students met and pet farm animals like horses, geese, sheep, chickadees and chickens, cows, rabbits and even a peacock.

“My favorite part of the trip was seeing the baby animals there,” Brant shared. “We met baby lambs who were born three days before our visit to the farm.”

The students experienced many new things on their visit to the farm, but said that they learned a lot about sounds, the moms and babies of many different kids of animals, and the recognizable smell of the barn.

“Even though the smell was different, Miss Brenda said you were very polite. You had great manners and you listened carefully,” Brant observed of her students.

Favorite parts of their trip varied from student to student, but Christopher said he liked playing in the AgVenture Barn. Preschooler Paul said he liked meeting the horses at the facility.

Brant’s assistant teacher, Linda DeLost, said the joy of her students was the best part of her trip.

“They were very excited. The big smiles on their faces as they learned so much was really wonderful to see,” DeLost shared.
