Two wins for baseball in Mingo Bay Classic

The Canfield High School boys varsity baseball team returned home April 23 after its annual trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where it went 2-3 against teams from three different states at the Mingo Bay Classic.

The team started the series off with 6-4 loss to Erhardt of Bamberg (S.C.) and a 6-0 setback to Atlantic Shores Christian (Va.). Canfield defeated Waccamaw of Myrtle Beach 7-1 and Hammerton (N.J.) 12-1. In the final game, Canfield lost 11-8 to Greenbriar Christian Academy (Va.).

Host families needed for Scrappers players

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are looking for host families for the upcoming season.

Families have the opportunity to host a Scrappers player during the season and receive complementary tickets to each home game as well as a discount on team merchandise.

Scrappers host families share their home with a Scrappers player from June through mid-September.

The schedule has 38 home games.

YSU basketball camps set for June

The Youngstown State women’s basketball coaching staff has three camps this summer for young student-athletes and high school teams.

For individuals in grades 4-9 the staff has a half-day camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June 27-30. For players who are preparing for the collegiate level the overnight elite camp is June 30 and July 1.

The team camp for varsity and JV squads runs June 10-12.

Mixed doubles tournament planned

The Youngstown City Mixed Doubles Bowling Tournament will take place at Amron Lanes in Canfield May 20 through May 29.

The cost is $24 per couple.
