Fitch softball shut out by Hoover

The Austintown Fitch girls softball team was defeated by North Canton Hoover 2-0 in seven innings April 26.

Hitting singles for the Falcons were Megan Carney, Carly Ortz and Cali Mikovic. Pitcher Amanda Callahan’s record moved to 5-4.

Beany hired at Fitch

The Austintown Fitch Board of Education hired Brian Beany Monday as the new boys’ basketball coach at Fitch High.

Fitch Hall of Fame

The fourth Fitch High Hall of Fame banquet will be Sept. 24 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary banquet hall in Austintown.

Fitch softball team falls to Jackson

The Austintown Fitch girls softball team had seven hits, but still lost a 6-5 contest to Federal League rival Massillon Jackson April 21.

Austintown’s Megan Carney hit a triple, a single and drove in a run. Brianna Banko had two singles and two RBI. Carly Ortz banged a double and an RBI and Cali Mikovich and Alex Corradi tallied singles. Tori Wise drove in the other run.

Mixed doubles tournament planned

The Youngstown City Mixed Doubles Bowling Tournament will take place at Amron Lanes in Canfield May 20 through May 29.

The cost is $24 per couple.

Host families needed for Scrappers players

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are looking for host families for the upcoming season.

Families have the opportunity to host a Scrappers player during the season and receive complementary tickets to each home game as well as a discount on team merchandise.

Scrappers host families share their home with a Scrappers player from June through mid-September.

The schedule has 38 home games.
