Senior center hosts Wii bowling tournament
The Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Dr., will be the center of the Wii bowling universe starting Wednesday.
Eight teams will compete for the Wii bowling championship and will conclude with finals May 20 at 10 a.m.
In addition, new activities at the center include a Tuesday afternoon golf league at the Mill Creek Par 3 golf course and a book discussion club. Interested participants can sign up at the senior center anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Day trips in May include a visit to the Heinz History museum and the strip district in Pittsburgh May 10. On May 17, the van will go to Legacy Village and Beachwood Place Mall just outside of Cleveland. On May 18, a trip to Mountaineer Casino is available.
Wellness Monday will May 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A pharmacist will be available to review current medications. Hearing and vision and blood pressure checks will be offered and health professionals and social workers will provide information.
Regular weekly activities include art classes every Monday at 9:30 a.m. with a $5 fee to the instructor, line dancing and Zumba classes on alternating Tuesdays at 10 a.m., Tai Chi exercise on Wednesday at noon and yoga every Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
All other classes besides art, accept donations for the instructors’ time and effort.
Lunch is offered Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis to seniors 60 and over. A $2 donation is requested, but not required and the number of meals is limited.
The Austintown Senior Center features speakers at 11:30 a.m. every Friday followed by the taping of the “Senior Focus” TV show. Mark Ludwick from Senior News will speak Friday, Jim Mattes from Social Security on May 20 and Dr. Holly Reinke from Centers for Hearing Care on May 27.
