The Boardman girls track team lost to Federal League opponent Massillon Perry April 19 by a score of 88-48.
Senior Nicole Vlad won the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.56 and ran a season-best winning time of 48.42 in the 300-meter hurdles. Freshman Nikki Hillard ran a season-best time of 27.57 to win the 200-meter dash and placed second in the 100, running 13.54. The 4X100-meter relay team won the event in 54.31 and consisted of Hillard, sophomore Julia Barnett, Vlad and freshman Morgan Hambrick.
Junior Tori Moore won the 800-meter run in 2:28.61 and placed third in the 1600-meter run with a season-best time of 5:31.79. Senior Carissa Plourde placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 64.92 and sophomore Daisy Corso placed third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:09.
In the field events, Hambrick won the high jump with a leap of 4-8 and Plourde jumped 14- Ω to place third in the long jump. Sophomore Sarina Mauerman had a career-best vault of 8-0 to place second in the pole vault. Sophomore Giovanna Silvestri placed second in the shot put with a toss of 33-5 and fellow sophomore teammate Daisy Robinson placed second in the discus with a toss of 109-3.
The girls’ team is now 1-4 in the Federal League, but head coach Denise Gorski is still pleased with the progress of the team. “These girls have shown a lot of heart and desire to excel. They never give up and I am most proud of that feature of this team. We had many girls and relays that had their season-best performances on this night and that’s what is most important — that they continue to improve,” she said.
“Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the Mahoning County Meet is going to be made up. It was canceled over spring break due to high winds and rainfall. The girls really look forward to this meet and competing against those teams in our own area.”
