Dairy Queen Easter egg hunt offers cool treats

With more than 5,000 plastic Easter eggs strewn on the Green, the approximately 200 children could feel the excitement, and friendly competition, in the air April 23. The occasion was the 23rd annual Canfield Dairy Queen Easter Egg Hunt for children 10 and under.
The eggs were filled with candy, coupons for the Dairy Queen store or raffle tickets, which qualified the lucky child for one of the grand prizes. The multi-colored plastic eggs peaked out from under a total of 10 bales of straw.
According to Canfield Dairy Queen owner Ron Rapp, at the end of the hunt, the straw was cleaned up and sent back to the farmer who donated it for the event.
To make it fair, and a little less competitive, a section was set aside for only children 4 and under. The other section was fair game for children 5 and up.
Pastor Jill Barton, children’s pastor at Rush Church, emceed the event, including calling the winning numbers of the raffle tickets. The prizes included Easter baskets filled with gift certificates for boxes of Dilly Bars, ice cream sandwiches, plush Blizzards, candy and more.
According to Rapp, Dairy Queen staffers and volunteers from Rush Church worked together to put on the annual event, as they have for several years.
