Carano wins state title at speech tournament


Poland’s Carly Carano, a student at Cardinal Mooney, won the 2011 Ohio High School Speech League State Championship in Dramatic Interpretation during the state tournament at Toledo Whitmer High School.

Her cut, “The Gift of Tongues,” was from a work written by Tyler Freeman which explores the inaccuracies of first impressions and physical impairments.

Carano has been an active in forensics at Cardinal Mooney for four years.

She placed third in last year’s state tournament in Duo Interpretation, second at Catholic Nationals in Omaha, Neb., and seventh at the National Forensics League Nationals in Kansas City.

She plans to attend the University of Illinois in Chicago next year and will major in English and Performance.

Carano, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carano of Poland, will compete in the 2011 Catholic Nationals in May in Washington, D.C., and the 2011 National Forensic League national tournament in Dallas in June.
