Boardman track boys use depth to beat Hoover


The Boardman boys track team used depth in several events to earn a 73-64 victory over the North Canton Hoover on April 12.

The Spartans scored big in the distance events as senior Eddie Adu-Poku took second in the 1600 with a time of 4:39 and freshman Mark Hadley was third in 4:42. Adu-Poku won the 3200 in 10:18 and freshman Alan Burns was third in 10:25.

In the 800, senior Alex Scott finished second in 2:08, followed by Hadley in 2:09. Senior Clayvon Finch won the 110 hurdles in 15.4 and teammate Allen Starkey took third in 16.2 seconds.

Boardman won the 4X200 meter relay with the team of freshman Ivan Adu-Poku, junior Devin Campbell, junior Michael Moxley and sophomore Nathan Jones in a time of 1:33.1. Senior Trae Robinson finished second in the 400 with a time of 52.1. Jones won the 200 in 22.5.

In the field events, junior John Kuczek won the shot put with a throw of 45-8 and senior Luis Salomon was second with a heave of 44-0. Boardman swept the discus as junior Brian Linsley placed first with a throw of 133-5, junior Nick Lamb took second with a throw of 117-5 and junior Mike Grantonic was third with a heave of 112-7.

In the long jump, Starkey took second with a jump of 20-6.75, while in the high jump senior Leandre Jackson took first with a leap of 5-10 with Starkey second at 5-8.
