Acolytes inducted

Christ the King Anglican Church recently inducted three church youth into the Order of Acolytes. They are Isaiah Perry, Donnell Wells and Charles Perry.

The youth will assist as crucifers, altar servers and acolytes at services of worship. As part of their preparation for worship on Sundays, the boys participate in morning devotions led by their mentor and trainer, seminarian John Harris.

The Rev. Dr. Lee Martin is pastor.

Honoring Mary

A Night to Honor Mary is scheduled at 7 p.m. May 6 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., and at 7 p.m. May 13 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 3430 St. Michael Boulevard NW, Canton.

Bishop George V. Murry will preside at both devotional services to honor the Blessed Mother. The diocesan Youth Choir will participate in the St. Columba service. All are invited to the services that will include Scripture readings, a homily, hymns and recitation of the rosary.

Church anniversary

Living Word Church, 1109 E. State St., will mark its 15th year with a service at 3 p.m. Sunday with Bishop James Erb of New Wilmington, Pa. followed by a celebration with refreshments.

Dr. Dale Fife, author and conference speaker, will preach at the 10:30 a.m. service.

The first service was April 27, 1997, at the original worship site on Syme Street in Masury. It was organized under Antioch International Ministries Network with Bishop Erb, director.

Fellowship banquet

Pastor Barbara Dobranchin and the congregation of Jesus is the Way Ministries, 319 Goldie Road, Youngstown, will sponsor Christian fellowship banquet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Brentford House, 737 Myron St.

Gerald Dowe, pastor of All Souls Body of Christ in Warren, will speak.

Studies planned

Crossing Paths local TV ministry, founded by Donald G. Reed Sr., will have its annual spring banquet at 6:30 p.m. May 13 at the Brentford House, 737 Myron St.

Special guests will be Chuck and Roberta Dorsey. He established a local chapter of the Exodus International Ministry.

This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.

Sponsors are needed to help defray expenses.

Training planned for clergy

A two-day training seminar for fire and police chaplains and other clergy is planned in May at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave.

On May 16, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation will present “Taking Care of Our Own,” a daylong seminar on line-of-duty deaths and serious injuries.

The class covers pre-incident planning, survivor notification, family and co-worker support, benefits and resources available to the families.

Instructors include Bill Hinton of the foundation; Chief Mark Wessel of the Keokuk Fire Department in Iowa; Joddie Walker, a certified trauma specialist; Carol Liddy, daughter of a fallen firefighter; and Bill Ruth, field supervisor for the Western Region, Office of the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner.

“Comprehensive Acute Traumatic Stress Management” will be presented May 17 by Chaplain Dan Schafer, Mid-Atlantic regional director of the International Conference of Police Chaplains, a fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, and an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God.

The course will teach chaplains how to “jump-start” an individual’s coping and problem-solving abilities and stabilize acute symptoms of traumatic stress.

Divine Mercy Sunday

Holy Family Church, 2731 Center Road, will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday at 3 p.m. Sunday with a short presentation on the devotion of the Divine Mercy.

A chaplet of Divine Mercy will be sung followed by benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and veneration of the Divine Mercy image.

Pope John Paul II designated the Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday, a celebration for the church around the world.

Men’s Rally volunteer meeting

The Rev. Ken Paramore will speak at a Men’s Rally in the Valley volunteer meeting set for 6:45 p.m. Monday at Victory Christian Center, 3899 McCartney Road.

He is pastor of Christian Revival & Discipleship Center in Youngstown and also spoke at the 2010 Men’s Rally.

The gathering also will include worship, prayer and updates on the Men’s Rally, a Christian men’s conference, planned May 7 at the Covelli Centre in downtown Youngstown.
