2 Oregon dogs survive 175-foot slide down cliff

CLACKAMAS, Ore.

Oregon authorities say two golden retrievers swept 175 feet down a cliff in a landslide survived their tumble to the edge of the Clackamas River.

A Clackamas County sheriff’s spokesman says rescuers from the sheriff’s Marine Patrol and a local fire district were able to retrieve 8-year-old George and 10-year-old Doug after their Wednesday afternoon fall down an 80-degree slope.

Their owner, John Grady, was working on a fence at his Eagle Creek property when he saw the dogs wander out onto an unstable overhang that collapsed.

Grady’s 20-year-old neighbor, Dustin Shatner, climbed down the cliff to help the dogs. Rescuers picked him up as well.

2nd package of pot arrives in Pa. suburb

UPPER DARBY, Pa.

Bricks of marijuana seem to be falling from the sky, or at least from the mailbox, in a Philadelphia suburb.

For the second time this month, a resident has received an unsolicited 5-pound package of pot.

Police in Upper Darby say an elderly couple received the first package in the mail last week.

They say another arrived this week at a home near the police station. A woman opened it because she was expecting a store delivery — but called police when she realized it was not from Babies “R” Us.

Both packages have an Arizona return address.

Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says the department sees about a half-dozen similar deliveries a year — and sometimes can track down the sender.
