Land sale paves way for South Side grocery

The city’s board of control approved the sale today of land on the South Side that will be the location of a full-service grocery store in a neighborhood without one for about a decade.

The board agreed to sell the 5.1-acre parcel in the Fosterville neighborhood for $14,000 to Bottom Dollar Food.

The store is expected to open in November.

Councilman Paul Drennen, D-5th, said he expects other businesses to open in that neighborhood — which is in his ward — because of the new grocery store.

The property is bounded by West Princeton, Glenwood and West Indianola avenues, and is the location of the former Cleveland School and adjacent Fosterville Park.
