Akron Children’s Hospital’s Pediatric Psychiatry and Psychology Division offers a series of programs for the parents of children and teens dealing with mental and behavioral health issues. The one-hour programs will be on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the hospital, One Perkins Square, Akron, as part of the PINES (Parents in Need of Education Services) Project. The programs are free, but a reservation is required. The first program on May 4 is about teen dating violence and the signs of an unhealthy relationship. Walk for MS

CANFIELD

The Ohio Buckeye Chapter’s Multiple Sclerosis Walk in the Mahoning Valley, sponsored by Giant Eagle and EMD Serono/Pfizer to raise awareness and funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, is Saturday at the Canfield Fairgrounds, 7265 Columbiana-Canfield Road. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the Government Building and the walk kicks off at 9.

Annual training

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley Child Advocacy Center invites social workers, counselors, therapists, attorneys and others who work with child abuse victims to the 11th annual Child Advocacy Center Training on May 4 from 8:40 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The registration deadline is Friday. The conference fee of $40 includes breakfast and lunch. Call 330-743-2539. The session features presentations on diversity and human trafficking issues.

Featured speakers are Dr. Celia Williamson, Ph.D., associate professor at the University of Toledo, Department of Social Work, and chairwoman of the Research and Analysis Subcommittee for Ohio Trafficking in Person Study Commission; and Robert Hunt Sr., equal opportunity compliance administrator for Summit County.

Yoga classes

A seven-session beginning yoga class is offered on Mondays, May 2 through June 20, at St. Joseph Health Center, 667 Eastland Ave. S.E., from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Dawn Perhacs, certified yoga instructor, will teach the classes. Autism presentation

The public is invited to a presentation on May 5 titled, “What’s Happening in the Brains of Children with Autism?” at Akron Children’s Hospital from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Considine Professional Building Auditorium, 215 W. Bowery St. Dr. Michelle Macias, director of developmental pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina, is the featured speaker.

The cost is $5 per person with financial scholarships available for those needing assistance.

Weight programs

SlimDown, a six-week weight management program taught by registered dietitians certified in weight management, will begin in early May at Humility of Mary Health Partners sites in Boardman and Niles. Classes are 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, May 3 to June 7, at St. Joe’s at the Mall, Eastwood Mall, Niles, and Wednesdays, May 4 to June 8, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, 5401 Market St., Boardman,
