Feds say they’ve broken Detroit airport drug ring

DETROIT (AP) — Federal authorities say they’ve arrested 10 former or current baggage handlers in a major drug-smuggling investigation at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Khaalid Walls says the 10 worked for Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc. He says the case involves cocaine and marijuana. In all, 12 people have been charged.

No other details have been released. The director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement is expected to attend an afternoon news conference today at a Homeland Security office near the airport in Romulus.

A message seeking comment was left with Delta.
