Wendell August Forge buys assets of New York company

Staff report

GROVE CITY, PA.

A year after seeing its headquarters destroyed in a fire, Wendell August Forge has acquired the assets of New York-based Old Forge Metals Inc., a pewter-casting company.

Wendell August will acquire more than 4,500 molds and dies from Old Forge, which will operate under the name Old Forge Pewter by Wendell August.

Equipment from the Vernon, N.Y., facility will be moved to Grove City beginning in May and reassembled in the Wendell August workshop and warehouse.

Wendell August craftspeople will be trained in the casting process and will make pewter giftware. Though this won’t create any new jobs immediately, there’s a chance for growth once business is ramped up.

Wendell August said it would not disclose the cost of the acquisition.

Old Forge, in business since 1975, previously was known for making napkin rings for President George H. W. Bush’s inauguration.
