2 cars stolen from lot

Police are searching for those responsible for stealing two cars off a Market Street sales lot. An employee of Sferra Motorcar Inc. told police Monday the cars, a dark gray 1992 Buick Century and a dark green 2001 Jeep Cherokee, were stolen between 3 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Police probe robbery

Police are investigating an armed robbery at Family Dollar on Robinson Road. Police said a sales clerk was opening the doors at 7:52 a.m. Tuesday when a man with a handgun wearing all black came up behind her, pushed her into the store and demanded money. She opened the safe; police did not release the amount taken.

I-79 wreck kills 1

MERCER, Pa.

A teenager was killed in a one-car accident on Interstate 79, state police in Mercer said. Ashley Harmon, 19, of Sharon, Pa., was northbound in Findley Township when the accident happened at 5:55 p.m. Monday. Police said she lost control on a curve, traveled 200 feet and struck a group of trees.

Gunfire reported

YOUNGSTOWN

An East Lucius Avenue woman told police she was with her children around 1:40 a.m. Monday when she heard three gunshots. Officers said they recovered one round that landed on her kitchen floor.

Around 7 a.m., police were called to an East Boston Avenue address where a woman told them that she heard gunshots and later observed damage to a window.

Child endangering

A 22-year-old township woman was in court Tuesday facing a charge of child endangering. Heather R. Schultz has a preliminary hearing May 31 in Mahoning County Area Court here. Police said Schultz was arrested Monday morning when a passer-by found her 3-year-old son alone in a roadway near their Shields Road residence. When police took the child home, Schultz was asleep, reports state. Police said the child is in the custody of relatives.

Attempted smuggling

WARREN

A 52-year-old man with addresses in Austintown and Canfield who worked as a contract-labor therapist at Trumbull Correctional Institute has been sentenced to one year in prison for trying to smuggle crack cocaine to prisoners. Christopher G. Ellis Sr. of Idlewood Drive, Austintown, and Berry Blossom Drive, Canfield, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to one count of cocaine possession and one count of illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto a detention facility.
