Serbia Open
BELGRADE, Serbia
Mischa Zverev of Germany advanced to the second round of the Serbia Open on Monday by beating Israel’s Dudi Sela 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3. Slovenia’s Blaz Kavcic also moved on after beating Tobias Kamke of Germany, 7-6 (0), 6-1. Serbia’s seventh-seeded Janko Tipsarevic was due to face Kei Nishikori from Japan in the third first-round match. The Serbia Open is run by the family of the No. 2-ranked Novak Djokovic, who opens his clay-court season on Tuesday after 24 consecutive victories this season.

Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia upset top-seeded Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round of the Barcelona Open. The 72nd-ranked Rybarikova broke the 2007 Wimbledon runner-up twice in the first set and three times in the second. Second-seeded Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania advanced when Zuzana Kucova of Slovakia retired while trailing 6-1, 5-0. Also, No. 6 Roberta Vinci of Italy, who beat Silvia Soler Espinosa of Spain 6-2, 6-3. Other first-round winners included Yaroslava Shvedova, Estrella Cabeza Candela, Maria Elena Camerin and Jill Craybas.
BMW Open
MUNICH
Mikhail Youzhny has opened his title defense at the BMW Open with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over German wild card Matthias Bachinger. Youzhny is seeded first at the tournament, where he also was twice runner-up. Sixth-seeded Sergiy Stakhovsky also advanced Monday when Denis Istomin quit while trailing 5-1. Horacio Zeballos defeated Robert Kendrick 6-4, 6-4 in another first-round match. Tommy Haas, once ranked No. 2, was to make his comeback in a doubles match. He had been out 14 months with various injuries.
