Liberty homeowners may qualify for help

Staff report

LIBERTY

Homeowners who live in the Church Hill area of the township may qualify for small repairs or more extensive work to their homes if they meet low- to moderate- income guidelines.

Homeowners in the area of Catherine Street, Colonial Drive, Fifth Avenue and Belmont Avenue with a household income of $42,950 for four residents may qualify. In May, the state of Ohio will revise the household income figures.

Township residents may qualify for rehabilitation and home-repair funding while all Trumbull County homeowners except those in Warren, Girard, Niles and Newton Falls, may be eligible for home-repair funds.

Through the Trumbull County Housing Improvement Program, rehabilitation funding for homeowners involves comprehensive repair or replacement of interior and exterior structural components of a home determined to be deficient by the program’s inspector. These include roofs, siding, windows, doors, plumbing, electrical upgrades and lead-hazard removal.

Homeowners in Trumbull County may apply for home-repair funding. It is usually limited to one or a few related structural housing items. Replacement or repair of such items as furnaces or ductwork, roofs, gutters and downspouts, hot-water tanks, electrical-service connections and porches. Other repairs also may be eligible. This program is open to all Trumbull County residents

Both programs are funded by Community Development Block Grants for Community Housing Improvement Programs. The home-repair program has a grant of $74,000 and the rehabilitation, $121,000.

Funding is limited so qualified applicants will receive repair and rehabilitation assistance on a first-come, first-served basis.

To determine if you qualify, call Trumbull County Planning Commission at 330-675-2480 for a preliminary screening.
