Wastewater treatment worker rescued after fall

WAAREN — Warren firefighters rescued a city wastewater treatment worker from the bottom of a pump station on Youngstown Road near North Road at about 9:30 a.m. Monday after the worker fell 30 feet down a manhole.

The worker, Mike Yaksic, fell onto another worker, causing an injury to Yaksic’s leg, Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle said. Yaksic was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

The other worker, who climbed out of the manhole and called 911, received minor injuries.

Nussle said he doesn’t know what caused the worker to fall into the hole. The pump station is on the north side of Youngstown Road near the Arby’s restaurant.
