Neighbors | Submitted.Art students from Watson Elementary put hard work into creating this paper mache replica of the grand canal in Venice, Italy..Art teacher Jennifer Houston shared her experiences from studying in Italy last year to teach the students about Italian culture.
Jennifer Houston’s art students worked on a model of the grand canal in Venice, Italy, during Watson Elementary PTA’s annual Art and Science Expo April 14.
Houston spent last summer taking masters classes in Venice, Italy. She brought videos and pictures of the grand canal to the students so they could learn about Italian culture.
The students made the sculpture out of recycled materials to go with the “Go Green” theme of the expo.
Kindergarten through second-graders used paper mache. Then it was painted by the third-graders and one of the first-grade classes. Some of the third-graders came to the art room during their recess times to help make gondola boats out of clay.
The students enjoyed creating it, and the entire school along with family members enjoyed looking at the finished product at the expo.
