Center track teams compete at Girard Relays

The Boardman Center Middle School girls track team placed seventh with 21 points at the middle school Girard Relays. Canfield finished first with 65 points.

The girls team of Taylor Thomas (800), Catie Groubert (400), Irina Sprankle (1200) and Jordan Grantonis (1600) took second place in the distance medley relay with a time of 15:17.5. Franchesca Cardillo. Kelly Kraatofil, Taylor Thomas and Jordan Grantonic made up the 3200 run. Their time was 11:52.6 which was good for a third-place finish.

The boys team finished fifth at the event with 35 points.

The team of Evan Croutch, Jon Michael Dana and Shamar Gilmore took first place in the shot put with a distance of 119-0, while Eric Jones and Jermaine Young took third place in the long jump combining for 47- æ. In the running events, Center took third place in the shuttle hurdles with the team of Matt Fryda, Matt Flipipovich, Jon Cina and Brian Fryda ran in 1:15.3.

The weight relay saw Croutch, Pawlak, Dana and Shamar record a second-place finish, covering the distance in 56.5.

Hit the ball and help St. Dominic’s

St. Dominic’s will host a golf tournament June 6 at the Tippecanoe Country Club. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. followed by a 10 a.m. tee time.

The cost is $85 per person and includes 18 holes with cart, coffee and danish, boxed lunch, dinner and tee gift. Dinner-only tickets are available for $30.

Team prizes will be awarded for first through third place. Hole events will include closest to the pin and long putts. A 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction will be available.

Center girls dominate Campbell and Lakeview

The Boardman Center girls track team swept the 1600 run, 800 run and defeated Lakeview (98-26) and Campbell (98-19) on April 13.

Meghann Morrow placed first in the 100-meter hurdles in 20.2. Jordan Grantonic captured first in the 1600 run with a time of 5:49.4 and the 800 run in 2:34.5.

Lily Testa leapt 12 Ω feet in the long jump, Ka’Nisha White tossed the shot put 29-9 Ω and Maya Ballard catapulted the discus 59-5. All were good for first-place finishes.

Second-place finishers for Center included Tori Augustine, 20.6 in 100 hurdles; Testa, 14.4 in the 100; Irina Sprankle, 6:40.8 in the 1600 run; Taylor Thomas, 1:17.3 in the 400, Paige Headlee, 38.4 in the 200 hurdles; Cassie Harsh, long jump of 11-6; Cameron Cervello, 4-2 in the high jump; and White with a throw of 58-4 in the discus.

Boardman boys top Lake in track dual

The Boardman boys track team won three of the four relays and collected many other victories en route to a 102-35 win over Lake on April 14.

Eddie Adu-Poku, Corey Zell, sophomore Sam Sheronovich and freshman Alan Burns won the 4X800 relay with a time of 8:38. The Spartans won the 4X100 relay with the team of Jones, Ivan Adu-Poku, Buonavolanta and freshman Brian Bodrick in a time of 44.9. The 4X400 relay team of Eddie Adu-Poku, Wolfe, Moxley, and Burns finished first in 3:42.

Senior Clayvon Finch placed first in the 110 hurdles in 15.9 and sophomore Nathan Jones won the 100 meters in 11.2 seconds. The 200 dash was won by senior Trae Robinson in 22.6.

Hadley pulled a double in the distance events, winning the 1600 in 4:39 and the 3200 with a time of 10:40. Senior Harry Wolfe won the 400 with a time of 54.5 and Eddie Adu-Poku posted a 2:03 to win the 800.

In the field events, junior Brian Linsley won the discus with a throw of 131-4. Senior Leandre Jackson finished first in the high jump at 5-8.

Boardman baseball squad defeats North Canton

Boardman earned its second Federal League win in three outings with a 5-1 victory over North Canton Hoover.

Spartan pitcher Troy Parks earned his second win of the season by holding the Vikings to two hits in six innings of action.

Boardman got two runs off one hit to start the fourth inning. Danny Popio walked to get on base and Carmen Tarantino got on with a third baseman’s error.

A single to right field by David DiBernardi sent home Popio and advanced Tarantino to third base. A walk of Joey Markovitch loaded the bases before Mark Calautti was hit by a pitch to send home another run, giving the Spartans a 2-1 lead.

Boardman plated two more runs in the fifth inning.
