The Vivian D. Martin Realtist Memorial Scholarship Luncheon will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. today at Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St.

The scholarship is named after Martin, who was murdered in September 2010 while showing a home on Youngstown’s East Side. Martin, 67, was owner of Youngstown-based Essence Realty.

Speaker will be Yulanda McCarty-Harris, director of equal opportunity and diversity at Youngstown State University.

Tickets are $30 per person. The event is sponsored by the Youngstown-Warren Realtist Association.

SlimDown for Kids

BOARDMAN

SlimDown for Kids, a weight-management program for children 9 to 12, has been streamlined to make it more convenient for participants and their parents. The program is a collaborative effort between registered dietitians from Humility of Mary Health Partners and the staff of the D.D. and Velma Davis Family YMCA. It provides nutrition counseling and fitness training, using the expertise of each organization.

The program runs 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, starting Monday through June 2, at the Davis YMCA, 45 McClurg Road. Adult CPR training

Hit and run

Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian. Johnelle M. Houck, 33, of Parke Drive in Hermitage was crossing the traffic-way near the M&M Beer Distributor in the Towne Plaza at 7 p.m. Thursday when she was struck by a dark-colored, newer-model sedan operated by a young white man, police said.

The man drove off. His car has damage to the passenger-side mirror, which was broken off and left at the scene. Houck suffered serious injuries and was taken to UPMC Farrell Hospital.

Campbell fires

Campbell Fire Department battled two blazes Thursday. The first, destroyed an abandoned house on Jefferson Street, happened at 2:30 a.m., the department said. Flames had engulfed the house by the time the department got there. A mother and her three children escaped the second fire at 7:53 a.m. at their home on Walter Street, the department said. The fire started in a second-floor bedroom. Loss totaled $30,000, the department estimated. The cause is under investigation, and the Red Cross is helping the family.

Lottery win

CORTLAND

A Cortland resident won $100,000, a top prize, on an instant lottery game called Special Edition Cashword. Betheny R. Palmer will pocket $69,000 after mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 31 percent are paid. Palmer purchased the winning ticket from Circle K #5427, 238 S. High Street in Cortland, and Circle K receives a $1,000 bonus for selling a top prize winning ticket, according to a news release from the Ohio Lottery.
