Mahoning Dems to begin petitions to repeal SB 5

The Mahoning County Democratic Party will start collecting signatures today for a proposed referendum on the November ballot to repeal a new law that restricts collective-bargaining rights for public employees.

Those wanting to sign the petitions can do so by going to party headquarters, 3321 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown, every Saturday, beginning today, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until early June.

Those wanting to be trained as to how to circulate petitions to repeal the new law can go to party headquarters today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also, We Are Ohio, the organization spearheading the effort, will have a training session from noon to 2 p.m. today at the Lemon Grove Caf , 122 W. Federal St., Youngstown.

People can also call Kurt Welsh at 330-720-6643 to make an appointment for training.

For the referendum to get on the November statewide ballot, at least 231,149 valid signatures of registered voters must be collected and given to the Ohio secretary of state’s office by July 5.
