Ohio U. mulls $500 annual price increase

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio University is considering price hikes that could add about $500 to the annual cost of attending the school.

The Columbus Dispatch reports university Provost Pam Benoit told trustees on Thursday that officials are discussing a 3.5 percent increase in tuition and fees for in-state undergraduates at the main campus in Athens.

Plans being looked at for the next school year also would raise room and meal plan charges by 1.5 percent.

The increases would boost the current price tag for tuition, fees and room and board to nearly $19,700 a year.

Benoit says the additional revenue would bolster scholarships, recruitment and other programs.

The provost says an official proposal has not yet been offered and that trustees won’t vote on any plan until after their June meeting.
