Covelli Centre has 1st quarter operating surplus

YOUNGSTOWN — The city-owned Covelli Centre had an $89,529 operating surplus for the first three months of the year.

The surplus largely came from eight Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus performances late last month and an unexpected increase in parking revenue on the facility’s grounds, said Kyle Miasek, the city’s deputy finance director.

It was the second most successful first quarter at the center since it opened in October 2005. The best first quarter was in 2009 with a $242,340 surplus with a Kelly Pavlik boxing match leading the way.
