Capacity-building training for board members and staff of nonprofit organizations in the Mahoning Valley is offered by The Raymond John Wean Foundation in partnership with the William Swanston Charitable Fund.
Training dates, times and locations are: May 19, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center, Fellows Riverside Gardens at Mill Creek MetroParks, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown; and May 24, 5 to 7 p.m., Kent State University – Trumbull Campus, Workforce Development and Continuing Studies Center, Room 211 W, 4314 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Champion.
There are two workshops, one for beginners and another for more seasoned attendees. Presenters are Dr. Peter Leahy and Dr. Eric Mundy, both of the University of Akron. The $10 fee includes light refreshments.

Hotline anniversary

Tracy J. Plouck, director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health, will be a guest speaker at Help Hotline Crisis Center’s 40th anniversary celebration May 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road, Poland. A reception is at 5 p.m.; a buffet dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., and the program, at 6:15 p.m. Reservations can be made until May 10 by calling 330-747-5111. The cost is $25 per person and $180 for a table of eight. The deadline for purchasing ads for the program is Friday. The master of ceremonies is Madonna Chism Pinkard of WFMJ/WBCB Television.
Health fair for all

The Northeast Ohio Medical University is offering a community health fair, The Body and Beyond, on April 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ralph Regula Conference Center at the university, 4209 state Route 44, Rootstown. Free health screenings include cholesterol and blood sugar testing, body fat calculation, heart disease risk and glaucoma and dental screenings. Kid’s Corner activities include games, free frozen yogurt, face painting, therapy dogs, demonstrations, safety education and coloring.
Suicide awareness

The fourth annual Survivors of Suicide Awareness Walk is May 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. beginning at the Trumbull County Courthouse Gazebo, Courthouse Square, in downtown Warren. The walk takes place in memory of loved ones who died by suicide. Participants are urged to take photos or signs to highlight the loss of loved ones to suicide. The event is sponsored by Loving Outreach to Survivors to Suicide, Help Hotline Crisis Center, Inc., and Survivors of Suicide of Mahoning and Columbiana Counties. Two additional vendors will be part of “Essentials to Midlife Wellness,” a seminar hosted by the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon on April 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel Sharon in West Middlesex. A $10 fee includes lunch.
