The Community Tool Shed, a project of Youngstown’s Neighborhood Improvement Corps, has opened its doors for the 2011 season.

The tool shed is located within the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, 480 Youngstown-Poland Road. The shed is a lending “library” of common household tools for painting, maintenance and yard work.

Due to the limitations of the grant by which the shed was funded, only those Youngstown city residents who are elderly, disabled, low income (200 percent of the poverty level or less), or a neighborhood or nonprofit service organization located in the city may borrow the tools at this time.

This project is funded by the Raymond John Wean Foundation and the Youngstown City Community Development Agency.

Individuals and groups must apply annually for borrowing privileges. Borrowers must complete an application, present a valid driver’s license or other photo identification, provide proof of residency, and sign a waiver of liability.

The shed is open Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. More information is available by contacting the organization at 330-782-8206.

The Neighborhood Improvement Corps is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the development and preservation of Youngstown’s Housing stock and to help elderly, low-income and disabled citizens of Youngstown maintain their housing in compliance with the Youngstown City housing code.
