Sandy Lake man killed in single-car accident

MERCER, PA.

Brian W. Geiger, 19, of Sandy Lake was killed Tuesday when he lost control of the car he was driving on Springfield-Church Road in Findley Township, Pa.

Mercer County Deputy Coroner Robert Snyder pronounced Geiger dead at the scene. The crash was reported at 5:10 p.m.

The Pennsylvania State Police at Mercer said the crash occurred when Geiger, traveling south at an apparent high rate of speed, crested a hill and was going downhill on a straight section of the wet road when the car veered off the right side of Springfield-Church.

It rotated clockwise on the berm and slid across Scrubgrass Road where it went airborne, struck two road signs and slammed into a clump of large trees on the driver’s side.

Police said Geiger was not wearing a seat belt.
