Teen reports beating

WARREN

A 13-year-old southwest Warren boy was hit in the chest by a man wielding a baseball bat on Highland Avenue on Monday night, he told police.

The boy said he was with his sisters, 12 and 15, looking for the family’s dog at about 8:30 p.m. when a man he didn’t know about 20 to 25 years old swung the bat at him.

The boy fell to the ground after being struck, but he and his sisters returned home, where their mother took the boy to the hospital. There, he was treated in the emergency room, but police said they didn’t know the extent of his injuries.

Trumbull Memorial Hospital said the boy was no longer being treated in the emergency room as of Tuesday afternoon.

Too old for DUI test?

PULASKI, Pa.

(AP) An Ohio woman’s DUI charge was tossed out by a Lawrence County, Pa., judge who says the woman was too old to submit to a field sobriety test she failed after being involved in a collision last year.

Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Dominick Motto last month dismissed the charges against 60-year-old Danniel Weaver, of Youngstown.

WTAE TV reported Weaver had just been involved in a crash in Pulaski Township in February 2010 when she was asked to perform four field sobriety tests. Weaver, then 59, passed three tests but failed one that required her to stand on one leg.

The station reported the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration doesn’t recommend the one-leg test for motorists 60 or older. The judge said Weaver’s age plus the recent crash made the test unreasonable.
