Police find tank of missing bull semen in Pa.

COUDERSPORT, Pa.

Police in north central Pennsylvania say they’ve solved the case of the missing bull semen.

Police in Sweden Township, near Couders- port, say the package containing liquid nitrogen and 1,770 units of the bull semen were reported missing from a residence where it was to be delivered April 2.

Police now tell the Bradford Era newspaper that the items never were stolen. Rather, a United Parcel Service driver left the package at the home then went back and retrieved it after realizing it shouldn’t have been delivered without someone’s signing for the package.

Township police Chief Bryan Phelps says the package was located in a UPS warehouse and has since been redelivered to the residence. The chief says the package is valuable for agricultural purposes.

The township is about 140 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Ariz. sheriff seeks votes on ‘Mugshot of the Day’

PHOENIX

The Arizona sheriff known for dressing inmates in pink underwear and feeding them green bologna is inviting people to choose the most-popular jail-booking photos posted on his website.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio allows online users to browse through the photos and then vote on their favorites that will be highlighted on a “Mugshot of the Day” section.

The top picks so far aren’t unexpected: They’re the most disheveled, unusual-looking people among those booked into the downtown Phoenix jail.

Arpaio says he hopes the increased Web traffic will highlight the work of his employees.

He also says more crimes may be uncovered if the public can view the photos.

The website is www.mcso.org.

Group reports record trash haul from NJ beaches

SANDY HOOK, N.J.

A record amount of trash was picked up along New Jersey beaches last year, including a kitchen sink.

Clean Ocean Action has been doing beach sweeps for 25 years and says in a report released Tuesday that more than 475,000 pieces of litter were removed from the shoreline last year.

They included a bag of heroin, a 10-gallon gas tank, five pairs of underwear, a duck caller and a plastic cow, in addition to the sink.

There also were four televisions, a plastic Easter egg with $3 in it, a fire extinguisher, a toilet-seat lid and an MP3 player.

Also found were 84 whole tires, nearly 1,400 aerosol cans and more than 1,300 strands of fishing line, which can kill sea life that gets tangled in it.
