Coroner says 5 dead in Ohio home were shot in head

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) — A coroner says autopsies show five members of a family found dead in their northern Ohio home each died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

The bodies of Alan Atwater, his wife and three young children were found early Saturday in a bedroom of a farmhouse near Oak Harbor, southeast of Toledo.

In a 911 call, Atwater had calmly told a dispatcher he shot his family and was getting ready to kill himself.

Investigators have been trying to determine a motive for the shootings. Family members say the couple had been going through marital problems, but nothing that raised any concerns.
