City man arrested in home invasion

YOUNGSTOWN

Police have arrested a 25-year-old city man in connection with an armed home invasion in March in which cash and a luxury car were stolen.

Raymond Lee Hammonds, 25, of Midland Avenue, appeared for arraignment before Judge Robert Milich of Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of robbery, criminal trespass, aggravated burglary and illegal possession of a weapon.

He was arrested at his home Monday.

Judge Milich set bond at $400,000 for all charges.

According to police reports, a Weston Avenue couple, a 36-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, were leaving a South Side home at 10:30 p.m. March 28 when two men met them at the front door with guns.

Police reports say the gunmen separated the couple and began searching in and around couches and in various rooms looking for money.

They went through some dresser drawers taking $1,400, a jar containing change and jewelry. The thieves even removed the earrings from the man’s ears.

Reports say the thieves fled the home taking a Mercedes Benz that belonged to the woman. Police found the car abandoned the next day.

Police are still looking for the second gunman.
