Fitch seniors choose schools

Three Austintown Fitch seniors have selected colleges to continue their football careers.

Shane Stevens (6-foot-1, 185 pounds), a senior linebacker and receiver, has received a scholarship from Lake Erie College, a NCAA Division II program in Painesville.

Stevens, a co-captain and three-year letterman, made 61 total tackles in 2010, including 29 solo stops. He had five tackles for losses and nine sacks, and broke up three passes. He was also the team’s long snapper and punter.

Stevens was named first team All-Federal League and first team All-Northeast Ohio Inland District, and was selected special mention All-Ohio.

Bruce Reed (5-9, 185), a running back and linebacker, has also received an athletic scholarship from Lake Erie.

Reed started both offensively and defensively and served as a captain his senior year.

He was a three-year starter for the Falcons. Reed rushed for 615 yards last season, averaging 5.5 yards per attempt.

On defense, he had 30 tackles, including seven solo hits. He caused two fumbles, had two sacks and blocked a kick.

Reed was named first team All-Federal League and second-team All-Northeast Ohio.

Blake Otterson (5-7, 165), a linebacker and receiver, will attend Westminster College.

Otterson, a two-year letterman, made 51 tackles, with three coming behind the line of scrimmage. He had two sacks and an interception, and led the Falcons on all their special teams units.

Austintown Fitch finished the 2010 season with a 10-2 record, winning the Federal League championship and qualifying for the OHSAA Division I playoffs.
