Cleveland police fatally shoot kidnapping suspect

CLEVELAND (AP) — Authorities here say a fleeing kidnapping suspect who tried to run down an officer was shot and killed by police.

They say the man was killed Monday evening after backing out of a driveway and trying to run down a Cleveland officer. Authorities did not release his name. An autopsy was scheduled today.

The 58-year-old man who had been kidnapped from a home in Cleveland was not hurt. Police arrested four suspects.

Police spokesman Sgt. Sammy Morris says the brother of the kidnapped man told police Monday morning about the abduction and ransom demand.

When the ransom money was picked up, police and the FBI chased the vehicle and arrested three men.

The Plain Dealer newspaper says the kidnapped man and another suspect were found at the shooting location.
