Goodyear’s new headquarters

AKRON

Goodyear officially broke ground Monday for new headquarters in Akron. The plan was announced four years ago but was delayed by financing problems amid the recession.

Gov. John Kasich was on hand and said the project shows the vitality of the state’s hard-hit manufacturing industry.

Developer Stuart Lichter says $100 million of the $160 million project will come from private investors. The rest comes from financing offered by state and local governments.

The renovation of other Goodyear buildings involves an additional $20 million to $30 million.

Goodyear will lease the new headquarters until 2038 with options until 2093.

GM to raise prices

DETROIT

General Motors Co. said Monday it will raise car and truck prices an average of $123 per vehicle to make up for higher oil and metal costs.

The increases, which affect nearly all Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC models, will go into effect in the U.S. on May 2. The higher prices are limited to the United States, spokesman Tom Henderson said.

Higher oil and steel prices and the cost of other metals used to make vehicles played a big role in the increase, Henderson said.

Oil prices affect the cost of plastic parts and tires, as well as filling cars with gas before they are sold.

Toyota Motor Corp. said last month it would raise prices on most 2011 Toyota, Scion and Lexus models between 1.2 percent and 2.2 percent.
