Amateur-radio classes scheduled

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association will conduct amateur-radio classes for three Saturdays, beginning May 26 and continuing the two following Saturdays, June 4 and 11.

Classes begin at 11 a.m. at the ITT Technical Institute, 1030 N. Meridian Road and will last for four hours.

These classes will help students review what they have learned in home study in preparation for taking a ham-radio license exam. Students successfully passing this exam will earn an entry-level amateur-radio license from the Federal Communications Commission.

License exams will be given after the review class June 11 for students taking the classes. The classes are free, but students will be required to purchase a study guide from the ARRL by calling 888-277-5289 toll free. Registration deadline is Saturday.

This will give students a chance to order the book and study the material. There is also a nonrefundable filing fee for taking the exam.

Call Jerry or Bonnie Viele at 330-534-1394 for information and sign-up. Students will be mailed complete details. Do not call ITT Technical Institute for information. Students must register to take the classes.

The Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association has been training and assisting local ham-radio operators for 92 years.
