At a joint dinner meeting April 8 at Michael Alberini’s Restaurant, the Mahoning County Medical Alliance and Society honored Tricia Potesta as Gem of the Year.

The award is presented each year to a member who serves both the medical alliance and community with distinction. The mission of the alliance is to inform and support the medical family and to enhance the quality of life through health education, legislation and community service throughout Mahoning County.

Potesta is a graduate of Ursuline High School. She attended Findlay College and Youngstown State University. After 20 years as a flight attendant, she retired from American Airlines.

Since 2002, she has been an active member of the alliance. She was president of the organization for the 2007-2008 term. She served on many committees with the alliance, most recently as chairwoman of the annual fashion show auction that benefited the Akron Children’s Hospital of Mahoning Valley’s Garden of Hope.

Potesta has served on the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Advisory Board for the past eight years. She has been active with the American Heart Association’s Heart Ball, serving the past two years as auction chairwoman.

Potesta is a member of the Akron Children’s Hospital Kids Crew and was the secretary for the Canfield Republican Women’s Club for two years.

She and her husband, Dr. Gene Potesta, live in Canfield with their children, Drew and Anthony.
