Joseph P. Belgrad, a junior at Ursuline High School, will be traveling to Europe this summer to participate in the Global Young Leaders Conference.

Belgrad is on the school’s honor roll and participates in marching, stage and concert bands. He is on the track and cross country and speech and debate teams and has participated in theater.

He previously traveled with an international peace education organization as part of the USA delegations to Sweden when he was 11 and to Mexico when he was 14.

Belgrad achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2010 and is a member of Boardman United Methodist Church.

The GYLC leadership development event takes place in Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai; Vienna, Budapest and Prague or Washington, D.C. and New York City.

The theme of GYLC is “The Leaders of Tomorrow Preparing for the Global Challenges and Responsibilities of the Future.”

Students will interact with key leaders and newsmakers with influence in politics, finance, culture and diplomacy and will participate in a carefully designed curriculum which includes thought-provoking simulations that build leadership skills.

“The Global Young Leaders Conference aims to provide scholars with the opportunity to collaborate with their peers from around the world to resolve global conflict,” said Marguerite C. Regan, dean of academic affairs for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, the organization that sponsors GYLC. “When ideas and points of view are shared, the true results of the conference are realized.”
