Canfield wins in Struthers despite rain

The Canfield varsity tennis team played at Struthers April 11 and won 3-0. Two matches were unfinished due to rain.

In singles play, Tony El-Hayek’s match against Alex Mackie was suspended due to rain.

Mark Davlin defeated Alex Kerchum in two 6-0 sets.

Mark Stanislaw defeated Todd Wilos 6-0 and 6-1.

In doubles play, Will Brown and Nick Debiec defeated Alex Cifra and Chris Stevenson in two 6-0 sets.

Jared Hofsess and Ryan Kaleel’s match against Tyler Shaffer and Chuckie Corn was suspended due to rain.

Softball team loses big lead, game

The Canfield softball team jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but couldn’t hold it as Lakeview rallied for eight runs in the fourth inning to earn a 10-6 victory on April 7.

Canfield was led by Sarah Vrabel and Kayley Keller with two hits apiece. Cara Cupler and Sydney Opladen both had two RBIs.

Tennis team falls to Lake

The Canfield tennis team lost to Lake April 6 at Canfield.

In singles play. Tony El-Hayek lost to Ross Whitaker in two 6-0 sets. Christian McCauley defeated Mark Delvin in two sets, 7-5 and 6-0. Mark Stanislaw defeated Clay Schnars 6-1 and 6-2.

In doubles play, Jared Gergon and Josh Duerr defeated Will Brown and Jared Hofsess in three sets, 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1.

Nick Debiac and Ryan Kaleel defeated Jeremy Davis and Tyer Newnham in two sets, 6-1 and 6-0.

Baseball team shuts out Lakeview

The Canfield baseball team shutout Lakeview 12-0 April 7, as Josh Midgley and Tyler Rhodes combined for the two-hit shutout.

Ben Angelo and Brad Smith each had two hits and two RBIs, while Anthony Ross had two hits and three RBIs for Canfield (2-0). Joe Tuchek had two hits and an RBI.

Golf league looking for new members

Monday Night Ladies at Diamond Back Golf Course, 9399 Leffingwell Road, Canfield, are looking for new members to join their league.

Neil Kennedy golf outing

The 14th annual Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic’s Golf Classic will be June 20 at the Trumbull Country Club.

The cost is $150 per golfer. Sponsorships are also available.

In addition to the outing, there is a mega raffle that includes various condo stays, electronics, sports memorabilia and sporting events tickets. Tickets are $20 each or six for $100.

Canfield tennis tops Akron St. V.-St. Mary

The Canfield High School boys tennis team defeated Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 3-2 on April 7.

In singles play, Mark Dalvin topped Trevor Chopko in 6-1 and 6-3 sets. Tony El-Hayek and Mark Stanislaw lost to their opponents in 6-3, 6-3 and 5-7, 6-5 and 7-5 sets, respectively.

Canfield’s doubles teams netted wins. Will Brown and Nick Debiec defeated Dillon Labine and Prestley Hollopeter 6-1 and 6-1. Jared Hofsess and Ryan Kaleel defeated Jason VanDevere and Jeff Danimiller, 6-1, 6-0.

Canfield Baseball Club offers $500 scholarship

The Canfield Baseball Club is accepting scholarship applications now through May 1. The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a boy and girl who is a former player of the CBC and volunteered at the club.
