Errors cost Boardman win over Ursuline

Five errors at key times lead to an Ursuline Irish win over Boardman at home April 11 10-7.

Boardman trailed in the contest 4-0 but mounted a six run inning in the fifth off of two Irish errors and doubles by Zack Williams, Mark Leone and David DiBernardi to go up 6-4.

Ursuline then answered back in the sixth inning getting four hits including a triple by Ryan Strollo and a Boardman error to retake the lead 8-6.

Ursuline added two more runs in the seventh inning off one hit while Boardman’s Danny Popio homered in the bottom of the inning making the final score 10-7.

Three of the Boardman errors resulted in Irish runs.

Glen Oak a wins at Boardman

After walking over Glen Oak on Wednesday the Golden Eagles came to Boardman on April 8 pinning on the locals their first Federal League lose 8-1.

Cold bats lead to the loose with Boardman only getting five hits in the contest.

Grantonic breaks Center record

Boardman Center Middle School’s Jordyn Grantonic broke the school record of 5:48.1 in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:39.4 during the girls track team’s match-up against Canfield Middle and Beaver Local April 6.

Center placed second overall with the help ofKa’Nisha White’s second-place 30-3 æ shot put throw and Betsy Garwood’s second-place 14.5 100-meter dash time.

Cameron Cervello placed third with a high jump of 4-2 and White threw the discus 62-4 for a third-place finish.

Trumbull Country Club hosts golf outing

The 14th annual Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic’s Golf Classic will be June 20 at the Trumbull Country Club.

The cost is $150 per golfer. Sponsorships are also available.

In addition to the outing, there is a mega raffle that includes various condo stays, electronics, sports memorabilia and sporting events tickets. Tickets are $20 each or six for $100.

Spartans record league win over GlenOak

The Boardman Spartans baseball team opened Federal League play by topping the GlenOak Eagles 9-4 in Canton on April 6.

The pitching duo of Troy Parks and Alec Neapolitan combined for seven strikeouts and gave up five hits.

Boardman’s Danny Popio and Carmen Tarantino each doubled. Popio went 2-for-4 with a run and Tarrantino added an RBI and a run scored.
