Fitch couldn’t keep up with Ursuline

The Fitch varsity softball team lost to Ursuline April 11 5-2.

Ursuline and Fitch were tied up at the end of the second inning but Ursuline’s three runs in the seventh was too much for the Falcons and they could not come back.

Carly Ortiz had a single and a double on the day, Alana Callahan had one RBI and Amanada Callahan had a single with Megan Carney adding another RBI.

Fitch softball team wins doubleheader

The Fitch girls softball team defeated Warren Harding 10-0 and 9-2 in two games April 9.

The first game ended in the top of the fifth after Fitch pitchers Amanda Callahan, Tori Wise and Carly Ortz kept the Harding team from scoring and the Falcons’ offense racked up 10 runs.

Ortz hit two homers, a single and four RBIs and Callahan had a home run, a double and two RBIs. Hitting doubles and one RBI apiece for the Falcons were Megan Carney and Carli Mikovich. Brianna Banko had an RBI-single and Alana Callahan hit two singles. Tori Wise earned an RBI.

In game two, the Fitch offense came on strong in the second and fifth inning, while holding Harding to two runs in the fourth inning.

Ortz hit a home run, two singles and batted in two runs. Mackinzee Barnes had three RBIs and Carney, Banko, Christine Holmes and Mercedes Pratt had one apiece.

Fitch baseball team splits doubleheader

The Fitch baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday against Columbiana. The Falcons won the first game 6-3 and lost the nightcap 20-9.

Winning pitcher Sean Mancino struck out eight in scattering five hits for the Falcons in the first game. Jake Eynon’s two hits included a double and drove in two runs.

In game two for the Falcons, Zack Miller had three hits and scored two runs, while Dan Spiker doubled.

Baseball games postponed due to rain

Freshman, varsity and junior varsity baseball games scheduled for April 8 have been moved to Wednesday.

The freshman game against Springfield Local originally scheduled for Wednesday has been moved to April 18 and will be played at Coppola Field at 5 p.m.

Fitch track teams place at invitationals

The Fitch boys track team won three of the four relays and got individual victories from Waylan Andrews (400-meter dash), Daniel Rivera (300 hurdles), Alex White (3200) and Jay Jakovina (high jump) to win the team title in the boys-only Cope Invitational at Reilly Stadium. The Falcons had 122 points, while Salem was second with 82.

The girls team competed at the East Palestine Invitational, where Fitch senior Ali Tolich won the shot put and discus to earn field MVP honors and help the Falcons finish second to Midpark in the team standings.

Fitch girls get win over GlenOak

Junior Megan Carney went 3-for-4 with a triple, two singles and an RBI during Austintown Fitch High School girls softball team’s 6-2 victory over Canton GlenOak April 7.

It was Carney’s first game back after an ACL injury kept her from playing last season.

Leading the offense were Carly Ortz with two singles, Tori Wise (two singles, RBI), Brianna Bankoa (single, two RBIs), Cali Mikovich (single, RBI) and Alana Callahan (single) and Amanda Callahan (single.)

Golf team looking for players for fall season

Golf for Little Falcons

The Austintown Little Falcons Golf Outing is scheduled for May 29 at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course in Lake Milton.

The outing will be a four-person scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $65 per golfer and includes breakfast, lunch, beverages and a dinner prepared by O’Donold’s Pub and Grill.

Trumbull Country Club hosts golf outing

The 14th annual Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic’s Golf Classic will be June 20 at the Trumbull Country Club.

The cost is $150 per golfer. Sponsorships are also available.

In addition to the outing, there is a mega raffle that includes various condo stays, electronics, sports memorabilia and sporting events tickets. Tickets are $20 each or six for $100.
