Schools to make up missed days

Staff report

youngstown

The city school district will make up school days missed because of inclement weather by extending the school day.

The district had eight calamity days due to inclement weather this school year and in compliance with House Bill 36 is required to make up the equivalent of three days.

The recent legislation gave school districts the flexibility to make up calamity days by lengthening the remaining days of the school year.

April 26 through June 2, a half-hour will be added to the end of the school day, making dismissal time one half-hour later. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 4 p.m., middle schools will be dismissed at 2:45 p.m. and high school will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m.

On June 3, schools will be in session for a half-day with an early dismissal time.

After-school activities will continue as scheduled.

At Youngstown Early College, longer school days begin Monday and continue until May 20. The school day will be extended one half-hour during that time, making dismissal times one half-hour later.

On May 20, YEC will be in session one-half day with an early dismissal time.
