First National Bank installing new signs

YOUNGSTOWN

Come Monday morning, the Youngstown city skyline will have two new additions.

First National Bank, headquartered in Hermitage, Pa., is installing massive new signs on top of its location at 1 W. Federal St. this weekend.

The signs are fabricated and will be installed by Pennsylvania-based Atlas Neon Sign Corp.

At heights of 5 feet, 7 inches, widths of 87 feet, 5 inches, and illuminated by white LED lights, the signs will fit right in with the size of the First National Bank Tower, the tallest building in the city at 224 feet.

On the sign will be the trademark First National handshake and American flag logo.

“We just wanted to let the community know we’re committed to the [Mahoning] Valley,” said Pete Asimakopoulos, Youngs-town market president and FNB executive vice president of small-business banking. “We want to put our logo up there to show that.”

Asimakopoulos said First National has had the idea for about 10 years, and after a growth in retail and market share, decided to go forward with the six-figure commitment.

Kathy Hammons, communications and public-relations manager, said the signs will be put up Saturday and Sunday afternoon — weather permitting — and the company has received permission from the city to block off a portion of Federal Street while the signs are installed.
