An electrical problem caused the fire at Palumbo’s Meat Market on Wednesday, according to the Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department of Mercer County.

The problem was not with the meat smoker as originally thought.

“We thought that, but after we cooled it down and could get in there to look, we found out what it was,” Fire Chief Bill Williams said. “The insurance company came in and confirmed it for us.”

The fire destroyed both the business and home above it at 3600 Hubbard-Middlesex Road around 4 a.m. Wednesday causing an estimated $1 million in damage.

Owner Keith Palumbo said people who still want to order Easter hams can contact the business’ second location in Sandy Lake. They also can use Palumbo’s Facebook page.
