Armed robbery

Police are investigating the armed robbery of a North Side man walking near Norwood Avenue.
According to police, the 30-year-old Martin Luther King Boulevard Jr. man had cashed his paycheck at a convenience store on Belmont Avenue and was walking home at 10:30 p.m. Thursday when a man pointed a gun at his face and demanded all his money.
The victim handed the thief $355 and an identification card.
Handgun recovered
YOUNGSTOWN
Police have recovered a handgun believed to have been carried by a fleeing suspect Thursday night.
According to police reports, officers were sent to the area of Dewey and Zedaker avenues on the South Side in reference to three black men pointing a gun and threatening people in a nearby park. Officers saw one man attempting to pull a black handgun from his waist as he ran away from police.
Police did not catch the man but did find the .38-special revolver he was carrying. The weapon had been thrown into the backyard of a home on Compton Avenue.
Suspect sought

Police are looking for a small, white female with blonde hair between 25 and 35 years old and under 150 pounds driving a red car who may be responsible for slight injuries to a man at a South Side gas station.
According to police reports, the man was at a gas station in the 500 block of Midlothian about 1 p.m. Thursday when he was struck in the neck and left side of his face by the hose from a gas pump. He told police the woman left the hose in her gas tank and was driving off when it flew out and hit him in the face. The man did get a name and number from the woman, but the number was fake.
Planting trees

The Boulevard Park Blockwatch will plant trees at 9:30 a.m. today. The tree planting is a continuation of the group’s beautification project that began last year.
The group has worked in collaboration with Treez Please, which donated the trees, city forester David Sturtz, who helped get the space prepared, as well as support from Jason Whitehead, director of the city’s parks and recreation department, and Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th.
If you would like to help plant trees, meet at the corner of Rush and Midlothian boulevards. The tree-planting is part of Wean Foundation’s Neighborhood Success Grant Program.

Mill Creek MetroParks is soliciting public comment for an upcoming improvement project. The area is East Cohasset Hike/Bike Trail between Parkview Avenue and Ottawa Drive, as well as the entrance from Genessee Drive. East Cohasset Drive is used as a hike-and-bike trail and will remain closed to vehicular access when the project is complete. Public comment will be received by the park district through 4:30 p.m. April 29.
