Teen girls seminar
WARREN
The YWCA of Warren is offering a free seminar for teen girls and their parents at 10 a.m. Saturday at the YWCA, 375 North Park Ave. The event is part of the Warren YWCA’s Minority Health Month Seminar Series.
Mary Duke, founder and executive director of Teen Straight Talk, is the keynote speaker. Also, a panel of teen mothers will speak about their experiences and the challenges they had to overcome raising a child alone. The first 50 attendees will receive an all-weather tote bag, and there will be a raffle to win Giant Eagle gift cards.
The seminar schedule is registration, 10 to 10:30 a.m.; Duke presentation, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; teen panel, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; lunch, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. For more information, call Danette Palmer at 330-373-1010 ext. 13.
YSU chops 10 trees

Ten trees along Lincoln Avenue at Youngstown State University have been cut down because the roots were buckling the sidewalk.
Ron Cole, YSU director of communications, said the university received reports from individuals who tripped and fell because of the heaving sidewalk. “In the best interest of safety of everyone, we decided to have the trees removed,” he said.
A sign posted next to where the trees grew says trees will be planted along the corridor, away from the sidewalk.
“We value our trees here. We love our trees,” Cole said. “We are a Tree City USA school.
During the last five years, 300 trees have been planted around campus, he added.
Downtown detour
Youngstown
Market Street between Commerce Street and Boardman Street and West Federal Street between Market Street and Phelps Street will be closed to through traffic and intermittently to pedestrians Saturday and Sunday. The closure is needed to mobilize a crane to place signage on the Metropolitan Tower building. A local detour will be posted.
Breakfast postponed
East Palestine
Because of the rain forecast for Saturday, the East Palestine Rotary Club has rescheduled its annual all-you-can-eat breakfast with the Easter Bunny featuring pancakes and sausage from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday to April 23 at the Community Center at the City Park for all ages. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children. Matted pictures with the Easter Bunny will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and cost $8 each.
Vendor deadline
NORTH LIMA
The deadline for vendor applications for Beaver Township’s annual Trash ‘n’ Treasure Sale is today. The cost is $20 for a 10-foot by 15-foot space, and the sale will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14 at Woodworth Park off Western Reserve Road between Market Street and Southern Boulevard. For information, contact the Beaver Township Park Board.
Springfield cleanup
NEW SPRINGFIELD
Springfield Township 2011 Spring Cleanup will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Volunteers will clean township roadsides. Waste Management’s Garfield Road Site will be open to residents for free drop-offs. No freon, tires, batteries, oil, TVs, or electronic scrap such as computer equipment will be accepted.
