Township trustees plan an appliance drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 7 at the township road department, 7508 Clingan Road. It is funded by the Mahoning County Green Team.
Refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, water coolers, stovers, freezers, hot-water heaters, water softeners and other appliances will be accepted. Tires, household hazardous waste and electronics, such as computers, will not be accepted, said township Administrator Jim Scharville.
Trustees this week also approved the purchase of five bulletproof vests from Red Diamonds for a price not to exceed $3,200, and half of that cost will be reimbursed through a federal grant, said police Chief Brian Goodin.
Bulletproof vests last for five years, Goodin said.
In other business, the trustees:
Authorized payment for Memorial Day expenses to the American Legion Post 15 and Post 247 in the amount of $150 each.
Recognized the fifth-grade girls basketball team with a certificate.
Proclaimed July 8 and 9 as Relay For Life of Poland days. Relay For Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and will be July 8-9 at Poland Seminary High School.
