Lloyd and Watson elementaries host spring carnivals

At Lloyd’s PTA Bazaar on March 25, Taylor Simpson showed off the new (fake) tattoo she received at the event.

Adam Emerick was happy to emulate a dancing pirate by sticking his head in a cardboard cutout, and his mom was nearby to snap a funny picture.

There were two events going on at the same time on March 25, both promoting community involvement and fun in Austintown schools.
Watson Elementary’s spring carnival, which is held at Frank Ohl to allow for greater space, is the Watson PTA’s biggest blowout of the year. The event included a wealth of carnival games created by each school’s classrooms, along with music, snacks, face painting, prizes and bouncy slides and castles.
“It’s a party that’s too big to fit in the halls of Watson,” said PTA chair of the event Jaclyn Iagulli. “Frank Ohl graciously welcomes us and definitely lets us have fun without the stress.”
A highlight of Watson’s carnival was when royalty was crowned, including princes and princesses in kindergarten, first and second grades, and king and queen third-graders.
“It’s a fair process – we put everyone’s name in a bag and pick the winners by chance,” Iagulli explained. “But, it’s really exciting for the kids. They get to wear their sashes and crowns, and they’re glowing with happiness since the announcement.”
Over at Lloyd on the same evening, the school welcomed parents and students to their halls for a pirate-themed PTA Bazaar.
Lloyd’s shindig included a visit from Captain McFinn from the Eastwood Mall, along with food, games, prizes, coloring contests and basket raffles.
A favorite game of the night was the Cake Walk, where students walked in circles trying to land on a lucky number to win a baked good. Every student left with something sweet, however, thanks to the nearly 300 donated cakes, pies and cupcakes from parents and the PTA.
“Our bazaar is just a wonderfully fun night,” said Lloyd PTA president Lynn Mickey. “It lets our Lloyd families mingle and get to know each other in a friendly environment. We hope that the community really enjoys it.”
