Thanks to the Hilltop Elementary School PTO, the carnival was in town March 25 and students and their families were invited to enjoy all the festivities, which included dinner, games and a Cornersburg Dairy Queen sundae bar.

The event was the PTO’s annual Winter Carnival fundraiser, chaired by Amy Kinkade.

“This carnival is one of our big fundraisers of the year. All proceeds go back to the school to buy technology for the students,” said Kinkade.

Games, which were set up in the gym, included target toss, corn hole toss, ladder ball, football throw, apple roll, frog flinger, potty toss and gopher golf. The children also had the opportunity for face painting, tattoos and could get dressed up to take pictures in the photo booth. Bounce-A-Round also brought in a super slide.

Members of the Canfield Village Middle School’s Leo Club and the Canfield High School’s Key Club and National Honor Society volunteered to work the games at the carnival.

A bake sale was also held during the carnival with donations coming from Hilltop families. According to bake sale co-chairs Staci Wills and Micky Rosko, they received an overwhelming response to their request for donated baked goods.

“We could not be more grateful to our Hilltop families for their generous donations,” Rosko said.

Lining the hallways around the gym were baskets for the Chinese auction, which was chaired by Karin Hudock. Each class at the school was assigned a theme for a class basket and students could bring items in to be put in the basket.

Local businesses, such as Ange Netta’s, Stacey Studio, Studio Oxygen, Wags ’n Wiggles, S&S Spiritwear, Fairway Ford, Barney’s Deli, Broad Street Diner, Davis Family YMCA and Zenobia, donated items to be included in the auction. A total of 24 classroom baskets and 25 business baskets could be won.

Winners of the baskets were announced at the end of the evening by Hilltop Elementary School Principal Cathy Mowry, along with the winner of the 50/50 raffle.
