On March 24, spring sprung for the girls of North Elementary at their Dad-Daughter Dance.
The weather was unseasonably cold that Thursday, but PTO committee chair Diane Kluchar didn’t let that fact dampen the spirits of the guests.
“It’s OK if it’s cold outside. It’s warm and bright and fun enough on our dance floor to keep us going until spring really comes,” Kluchar said.
In the school’s art room, the guests decorated clay pots with finger paints and received a bag of seeds to get a garden started for spring. At another station, the dads and daughters decorated picture frames with paper flowerpots and a large paper flower. At the end of the night, the guests added a photo snapped at the start of the event, and could take the frame home.
North principal Tracy Kaschak likes that the event offers a bit of alone time for the dads and daughters.
“It’s challenging to set time aside when life gets busy. I hope this event provides some good quality time for our students to spend with someone they love, and a chance for some fun activities, as well,” Kaschak shared.
After crafts, the students and their guests took to the dance floor, where a mix of current pop hits and old favorites were played.
“The dancing is definitely the draw for the girls,” observed event chair Kluchar. “The moment they walked in, the girls were beaming and telling me they can’t wait to dance with their dads.”
Student Hannah Misko invited her uncle, Ralph Misko, to dance the night away with her.
“The whole night has been wonderful,” her uncle shared after doing a “Twist and Shout” with Hannah.
“The decorations are amazing and the music is fun. They’re playing the right tunes for the girls, and for some of us old guys that like to dance, too,” Misko said with a smile.
